Close the Door on Fire - House wiring

  • Make sure the tripping points of your fuses or circuit breakers match the capacity of the circuits they protect (have them inspected professionally).
  • Make sure bathroom and kitchen wall outlets are protected by ground fault circuit interrupters (GFCIs).
  • Check to determine if your local safety code requires the use of arc fault circuit interrupters (AFCIs), which detect abnormal arcing in a circuit.
  • Consider installing an automatic fire sprinkler system, which can contain or put out a fire in less time than it takes the fire department to arrive.
