Decorative panel

Between-the-glass window fashion with textured, colored and natural interlayers to create a one-of-a-kind design accent. Panels allow light to shine through, but obscure the view.

 

Design pressure (DP)

Measure of a product’s capacity to withstand the forces of windloading, in both positive and negative directions, while it is closed and locked. See also “Windload.”

 

Double-hung window

Window that has two operable sash that can be raised from the bottom or lowered from the top for two levels of ventilation.

 

Double-glazing or Double-pane glass

Two panes of glass with a small airspace between to improve the insulating properties to help prevent heat or cold from escaping or entering your home.

Entry door

A curbside door, usually at the front of the home which leads into a foyer entrance hall or reception area.

 

Extrusion

A form produced by forcing material through a die. Pella uses aluminum extrusion to create the durable, low-maintenance EnduraClad® exterior for wood windows and patio doors.

 

Eyebrow door

The shape of an entry door with a gently curving arch on top — like that of an eyebrow.

 

Easy-cleaning windows

Venting windows that feature the ability to clean the exterior glass from inside your home.

 

Fenestration

The design and disposition of windows and other exterior openings of a building. From the Latin word, “fenestra,” meaning window.

 

Fixed window

Non-venting or non-operable window.

 

Flashing

A thin strip of metal or synthetic material that diverts water away from a window or door.

 

Foam spacer

Grilles are permanently bonded to the inside and outside of energy efficient insulating glass with a non-glare foam spacer between the panes of glass to give the illusion of individual panes of glass. Provides the look of true divided light with the performance of insulating glass. See also “Integral Light Technology®.”

 

Frame

The combination of head, jambs and sill to form a precise opening in which a window sash or door panel fits.

  

French hinged door

A hinged door with wider stiles and rails that surround the glass. Available in single-panel doors or double-panel doors, in-swing or out-swing.

 

French sliding door

A sliding patio door with a wider panel frame, giving it the look of French hinged doors.
